Introduction: Daisie Cottage is a detached, two-bedroomed,
two storey self-catering cottage near May Hill, Newent,
Gloucestershire. It is set next to the owner's home, with its own
private, enclosed gravelled garden area. The entrance and parking area
for the property are also gravelled. Unfortunately Daisie Cottage is
not very suitable for wheelchair access as both the bedroom and bathroom
areas are on the first floor.
Pre-Arrival: Bookings and enquiries can be made via e-mail or
phone. The nearest shopping facilities and pubs are about 1 mile away.
The town of Newent is on a bus route and the nearest bus stop is about 1
mile away. A car is
essential to visit the many attractions the area has to offer.
Arrival and car parking facilities: There is one allocated car
parking space to the front of the cottage, which is approximately 2m
wide. A further parking space may be made available if required. From
the parking area, a 2m wide and 10m long gravel and flagstone level path
leads to a flagstone step up 20cm by 120cm wide to the door at the side
of the cottage. There is a second entrance to the cottage from the
private garden area, though French doors which require a step up of
10cm. There is PIR lighting along the gravel path to the door and to the
front of the cottage, within the private garden area.
Main entrance: The entrance door is 84cm wide, with clear access.
The French doors to the front of the property are 136cm wide. Access is
restricted to one door 67cm wide, due to the positioning of the sofa.
The entrance hall has a natural slate tiled floor.
Hall, stairs, landing and corridors: The entrance hall is 90cm wide
by 212 cm and is open plan to the kitchen, dining and sitting room areas.
The understairs cupboard is approximately 175cm by 85cm with ceiling
height reducing under the stairway. It contains an ironing board and
iron, mop and bucket, shoe rack and washing basket. The staircase from
the entrance hall way to the first floor landing is 78cm wide, with 3
winder steps and a hand rail on the left. The main steps are 24cm deep,
rising 20cm. Stair lighting has a double-way switch from landing to hall
way. At the top of the stairs, directly in front, an oak door 68cm wide,
leads to the main bathroom. To the right and left of the landing are
oak doors 76cm wide, which lead to the two bedrooms. The upstairs
landing and two bedrooms have matt-lacquered natural oak floors. Both of
the bathrooms are tiled with matt-ceramic natural stone-look tiles.
Kitchen: The kitchen is open-plan to the hallway, dining and
lounge areas. The floor is covered with matt-lacquered natural oak
floorboards. The kitchen units are of an L shaped design, with wall
cupboards on one side, 1m high, positioned 49cm above the work top. The
work top is 91 cm from the floor. There is under-cupboard lighting under
the wall units and two spotlights mounted on the wall above the work
surface on the other side. The kitchen also has downlighters mounted in
the ceiling. It has standard height, wooden cream painted units with an
oiled wooden worktop. The kitchen has a Belfast sink, 86cm from the
floor to the top of the sink. The built-in dishwasher has a drop-down
door. A washer/drier machine is provided, with a door hinged on the
left. The fridge with ice-box has a right-hinged door. A microwave is
housed within one of the wall units, 54cm above the work surface.
Dining and lounge areas: The dining area is open plan to the
kitchen and lounge area. The floor is covered with matt-lacquered
natural oak floorboards. There are downlighters mounted in the ceiling,
5 amp table lamp and a traditional standard lamp. The rectangular dining
table is 68cm wide by 122cm long and 76cm high. It has four
leather-covered padded and sprung dining chairs, with seat heights of
45cm. The dining area also has a nest of 3 wooden tables, which range
from 40cm to 45cm high. The lounge area has a corner leather sofa unit
to seat 5 people, 45cm to seat height and 1m wide deep cushions. It
measures 250cm long each side to the apex. The lounge area also has one
large wooden rectangular coffee table which is 46cm high and a free
standing wooden cupboard, 73cm high on which stands a dvd player with a
remote control. A selection of dvds are housed in the cupboard. A flat
screen tv with Freeview channels is mounted on the wall and has a remote
control. The lounge area has a polypropylene rug which is 120cm wide by
Bedrooms: Each bedroom is accessed by a 76cm wide doorway with
oak, thumb-latched doors. Both bedrooms are fitted with matt-lacquered
natural oak wooden floorboards. Each bedroom is provided with bedside
rugs which have a non-slip backing. Each bedroom has ceiling-mounted
downlighters and 5 amp bedside lamps (two in each bedroom). The main
bedroom is 350cm by 345cm and has a coved sloping ceiling, from 227cm
high reducing to 91cm on one side. The main bedroom has one king-sized
(5ft) French, oak-framed bed which can be accessed on both sides, with
95cm wide access to the right with full-head height and 55cm wide access
to the left, which also has reduced head-height from 137cm to 91cm.
Further wooden furniture includes an oak wardrobe, mahogany chest of
drawers 105cm high, with dark wood dressing mirror and a bedroom chair
with 45cm high seat. The second bedroom has two single (3ft) beds which
can be zipped and linked to form one superking (6ft) bed if required.
Single beds can be accessed on one side, one with 123cm wide access to
the left and one with 104cm access to the right, reducing to 66cm to the
front of the wardrobe. The ceiling slopes down towards the head-ends of
the beds, reducing to 133cm at one head-end and 110cm at the other. The
super-king option takes up the full width of the room, but provides full
access to the foot of the bed. Further wooden furniture includes an oak
wardrobe, a mahogany chest of drawers 79cm high and an oak blanket chest
52cm high, which also serves as a bedside table. There is also a
cream-painted full-length mirror and a bedroom chair with a 45cm high
seat. Hyper-allergenic, 3-season washable duvets are provided, with
hyper-allergenic pillows, mattress and pillow protectors. All sheets
and duvet covers are 100% cotton.
Bathroom and en-suite shower room: Both the main bathroom and
en-suite shower room are tiled with matt-ceramic natural-stone look
tiles. Non-slip rubber mats are also provided. · The both the
main bathroom and en-suite shower room are accessed by oak doors, which
are 69cm wide. Downlighters are mounted in the ceilings and both the
main bathroom and en-suite have extractor fans. The washbasins and
toilets are of a standard height. Ceilings are sloping, from 226cm high
reducing to 147cm high at the sides of the room. Both the bathroom and
en-suite have electric shaver points. The main bathroom has a 59cm high
and 120cm long bath with telephone taps mounted offset to the middle on
the front side. The bath measures 42cm wide at the narrowest point. The
en-suite shower room has a 114cm by 76cm wide enclosed shower with fixed
wall-mounted shower head and is accessed by glass saloon doors, max 45cm
wide by 182cm high.
Downstairs toilet and boiler room: The downstairs toilet is
accessed through an oak door, 69cm wide. The floor is covered with
natural slate tiles. The toilet and small hand wash basin are of a
standard height. The room also houses the oil-fired boiler,
water-softener and electric fuse-box.
Grounds and gardens: The private garden is gravelled and randomly
paved with flagstones.
Accessed by a wooden gate 90cm wide, it is enclosed by a wooden fence,
180cm high on two sides, with access from the gravelled pathway through
a wooden door. The third side has a lower fence, 1m high, providing
views across open fields and to the Malvern Hills and is framed by a
metal trough which is planted up with shrubs and flowers. A further
metal container is also planted with ornamental shrubs and flowers. A
garden table with four chairs and a barbeque are provided within the
garden area. The dustbin and recycling area is housed within a wooden
container which has double doors to the front and a hinged lid. It is
situated at the entrance to the property, by the roadside, in the car
parking area and is accessed via the gravelled pathway from the cottage.
Additional information: The information folder can be provided in
larger print on request. The property is a new build and has therefore
been recently wired, with light switches conforming to current NIC
regulations for new build properties. Mobile phone reception on some
networks are good, others are variable. A free WiFi connection is
available. The signal can be variable, but generally good. Daisie
Cottage has a strictly no smoking policy in the cottage. Regretfully, no
pets are allowed at the property.
